Qualifications

The approved dimensions (length, width, and height) and gross vehicle weights when registering a vehicle have been published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1847/32 on 29/01/2014 in three languages (Sinhala, Tamil, and English) of the Government of Sri Lanka.

When a vehicle is in excess of the approved dimensions or gross vehicle weight, the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic will refer it to the RDA to get a recommendation from the RDA regarding the registration of the vehicle.

Process of forwarding an Application
The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic will issue a letter indicating the details of the excess dimension/weight of the vehicle. This letter has to be submitted to the RDA along with a certified copy of the certificate of inspection of a motor vehicle.

Weekdays between 8.30 a.m. – 4.15 p.m. (Except mercantile holidays)

Time taken to give the service (Normal Service and Priority Service)

Five working days.
(Under normal circumstances, within 5 working days. However, priority will be given to National Level Projects)

Required Documents of Proof
1. Letter issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic.
2. A certified copy of the certificate of inspection of a motor vehicle.
3.A letter from the vehicle owner indicating the intended use of the vehicle and place of the usage.
